Who publishes this, and how each answer is sourced
This page sets out who publishes Easy Pedestal and how I source and date each regulation, standard and figure that appears on it.
See how corrections to this site are recordedThe method
A rule about a pedestal deck build-up is only as useful as the document sitting behind it. A sentence that says a slab must meet a certain fire class, or carry a certain load, is not something you can put in front of building control or a warranty surveyor unless you can point to where it came from.
Naming the source, not just the number
Every regulation referred to on this site carries the document it sits in, the regulation or paragraph itself, and the date it was read there. A bare regulation number is not a citation you can check or quote back to a supplier, so the fuller reference is given instead, including the sub-paragraph where the provision needs one.
How a manufacturer figure is treated
A load figure, a fire classification or an acoustic figure only tells you something if you know what it was measured against. Where a datasheet states the test house and the standard the test was run to, both appear beside the figure. Where a datasheet gives a number with neither, that gap is recorded.
Where the documents go quiet
Not every question a specifier brings has a published answer. Where the guidance, the standard or the warranty requirement is silent on a point, that silence is stated, along with the wording to put to a supplier so the answer ends up in writing.
A reference you cannot check is just an opinion with a citation attached to it.
None of this removes the judgement a specifier still has to make on a given building. It gives you something to check that judgement against.
Every regulation named in full
A reference gives the document, the provision and the date it was read.
Every figure labelled
A load, fire or acoustic figure is shown beside its unit, test house and standard, or a note that none of the three is given.
Funding and corrections
No manufacturer, distributor or warranty body pays to appear on this site, and none pays to be left off it. I supply no pedestals, slabs or fixings, and I take no fee or commission tied to a sale, a specification or a click. A page naming a product is naming it because it is sold in this category.
Where a figure comes from
Every load figure, standard reference and regulation citation on this site is attributed to the document and organisation that published it, with the date it was read. That attribution says where the figure came from. It does not say the figure is correct, and a reader checking a number against the source document may find the source itself has since been amended, withdrawn or corrected.
Correcting a figure
Where a manufacturer or warranty body believes a figure, a citation or an attribution on this site is wrong, the correction has to point to something checkable: the document, the clause or page reference, and what it actually says in place of what is shown here. That is the same standard every figure on the site is already held to. Corrections and the dates they were made are recorded on the updates page.
